A collection of studio and home recordings, the first solo release of Nora Rogers (Solar Halos, Object Hours, Curtains of Night) truly showcases her courageous artistic approach and unique abilities on both cello and electric guitar. Almost completely improvised, Lapilli, presents an artist in her element at the moment of creation while also experimenting with the concept and process of intent and incident. Throughout the album, Rogers’s signature fuzzed guitar and cello trade roles as lead and supporting instruments accompanied by, among other things, extensive pre-recorded and live loops. The opening track, “Lodestone,” is an 8-minute dirge of explosive fuzz guitar over droning, weeping, cello which simultaneously leads and chases the listener with melody and harmonics. On “Gabbro,” marimba and guitar feedback lay a morphing, tense base for Rogers to explore the vast scope of her cello’s expressive range.

A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer
